THE IMPACT
Our motto is "Not Just Entertaining....but Life Changing." Our organization’s purpose is to make a substantial impact on people of all walks of life - that includes children, youth, young adults all the way up to seniors: all of whom are encompassed in the community. Our approach is versatility! So while we promote productions filled with dramatic messages of hope, inspiration, devotion, and celebration, we uncompromisingly address bonafide issues experienced within and around the Society. In light of this, please know that there is neither profanity nor indecent language in our productions. The scripts are written where families can enjoy the show without this negativity.
We firmly believe that people learn best from experience. Our impact is made when people sit in the audience - they have an opportunity to see themselves from the outside looking in. If they can not see themselves, then they see someone they care about and leave our shows provoked to do something about it.
According to the Florida Department of Children's of Family DV Digest Fall 2007, "99 percent of all the women who died as a result of domestic violence from 2005 to mid-2006 never stayed in shelter, and 95 percent had no contact with a certified domestic violence center within five years of their murder.. “- Staff, Florida Department of Children and Families. Domestic Violence Program Office (http://www.ncadv.org/resources/FactSheets_294.html)
That statistic means that YOU, Counselors, Teachers, Family, Friends and Work Associates most likely have direct contact with these persons, like the women mentioned in the statistic, at some point in your life because they are not in shelters and they have no contact with a certified domestic violence center.
For audiences in the education system or formal training sessions, attendees will be able to view these actors portray characters that are real and be able to help another child, parent or adult they may have to counsel. The ability to use examples from the production can bring across a point more vividly than the traditional recorded facts and graphical statistics.
The attendees will gain a new perspective on the effects of domestic violence on children, abuse in later life, male victims of violence and more.
OUTCOME ON THE COMMUNITY
Our current project: Cry For Help deals with Domestic Violence and Teen Abusive Relationships. The production "Pretending To Be Normal" specifically supports Child Abuse Awareness Month. Because there are opportunities for the youth to be involved in our productions, we have a young boy and girl between the ages of 10 and 14 that will be performing as two children in their own abusive environments as written in the script. Those children are then depicted as adults who have grown to make the decision to Break the Cycle of abuse in their lives. They made the decision that it starts with them and that abuse will not go any further. Children, Youth and Adults alike will view this production and can make a conscience decision to start with themselves. They will know that abuse is not normal. They will recognize that abuse is not OK. They will say:
There is another statistic that says, "Boys who witness domestic violence are twice as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults. [Strauss, Gelles, and Smith, Physical Violence in American Families: Risk Factors and Adaptations to Violence in 8,145 Families. Transaction Publishers (1990).] (http://www.ncadv.org/resources/FactSheets_294.html)
This production is effective because we are using young actors to impact their peers. It is effective because of the role playing during the number of rehearsals; the personal acceptance that the characters they are portraying are real and could be one of their peers; and the recognition that they are helping to Break the Cycle...through and by influence.
This production and our other plays are just instruments to hurting people that there is a refreshing yet revitalizing escape to complete healing. We accomplish this and our objective of education and training with our performances. In the Cry For Help Project we deal with (to name a few):
We do this on any stage: trainings, workshops, seminars, and conferences. We intend on going forward and displaying this production and others like it under the Cry For Help Project to:
